What's The Best Island?

Now, that all depends on YOU! Is it the nightlife or historical tours you are looking for? Then you want Oahu. Do you want to see a live volcano? Then the Big Island is the place. Are you looking for lush tropical, remote beauty? Then you want Kauai. Do you want to experience Hawaii in its most remote form? You will probably enjoy either Molokai or Lanai. (No fast food here!).

Do you want the best of all the islands with, fantastic beaches, tropical rain forests, beautiful waterfalls, nightlife without the crowds? Then you want Maui.

Why Choose A Resort?

Staying at a resort has a number of advantages over a condominium. If you want ocean front accommodations, you are more likely to find that at a Hawaii resort. If you don't mind paying for extra services, a resort is the right place for you. A valet will park your rental car and a bellhop will deliver your bags to your room and a maid will clean and make your bed each day, all as if your were a celebrity.

Want to sleep in? Breakfast can be brought directly to your room. Need to unwind? Many resorts have onsite spas with luxurious massages, facials, and manicures available on the premises. Why Choose A Vacation Condo?

If you want to save money on your accommodations, I recommend that you skip the resort hotels and stay in a vacation condo. They're much more spacious, have more amenities and are usually much less expensive than hotel rooms at the resorts. You can usually save between a half and two/thirds of the price of a smaller hotel room.

Condos often have full kitchens. So even if you're planning to eat out all of your major meals, it’s still nice to have a refrigerator stocked with cold drinks and snacks for your convenience. Most condos have a luxurious feeling. They often have several TVs, a VCR, stereo system, a coffee maker and usually a microwave.

Will You Need A Rental Car?

If you are staying on any island but Oahu, for most families, I will recommend renting an auto. There is so much incredible natural beauty to see on each of the islands that you will definitely want to have the right vehicle to use for exploring.

Should you choose a sedan, compact, van, sports car, convertible or jeep? Your choices are many. I’ll give you suggestions for the right vehicle to meet your preferences, depending on the island you are visiting and your personal agenda.

For Oahu, I usually don’t recommend a rental car as traffic volume is quite high and most resorts charge an additional daily fee to park your car. If you are staying in Waikiki, you will be within walking distance from most attractions. You may have heard about the Super Ferry. It currently only runs between Oahu and Maui. The Hawaii Super Ferry daily departs early each day from Honolulu and arrives in Kahului, Maui by mid morning. On the trip to Oahu from Maui the ferry departs from Kahului before noon and arrives in Honolulu in time for brunch.
